In 1851 James was living in Sheringham with his mother and 3 siblings. [3]
In 1861 James was living with his mother in Sheringham. He was a fisherman.
Also in the household was his widowed brother Robert and 2 of his children. [4]
He drowned at sea with 10 other fishermen on 2 November 1861 when a fishing lugger went down in fierce storms. His brother, Robert, the master of the vessel, also died, as did his nephew Hilary.
Research Notes
A note on the loss of the vessel and the public appeal that followed is here
In 1861, Robert was recorded on the census as a boarder rather than son. There are 8 1861 England and Wales census records of people named Robert Cooper born between 1823 and 1827 inclusive. Only 1 was born in Sheringham (this Robert Cooper). I concluded that he was Charlotte's son and James' brother.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:
