Thomas was born on 12 November 1805 at Parramatta.[1] His parents were Charles Cooper, a horse groom convicted of horse stealing and transported to Australia, and Alice Davis.
Thomas married Emmelia (Emma) Camp Rollinson Emmelia (Emma) Camp Rollinson on 7 October 1825 at Richmond.[2] They had twelve children together.

The Late Thomas Cooper, Rylstone. Mr Thomas Cooper, sen., the oldest resident of Rylstone, died last Wednesday, aged 88. The deceased was a native of the Hawkesbury River, and leaves over 200 descendants to the fourth generation.[3]
Thomas is buried in the Anglican section of Rylstone cemetery. There is a monument on his grave.[4] Find a Grave memorial 49111402
