Biography

The early years

He would be born to John Burgess Cooper and Sarah Ellen Fryman on the 19 Aug 1886 in Wayne Co, Missouri

Family Life

He would marry Effie Ethel Hargis on the 11th of August 1907 at the home of his father, John Burgess Cooper in Zion, Madison, Missouri, United States. His father gave permission for the marriage as Charles was only 19 years old. [4][5] And they would have:

Through the years

He would grow to be tall and slender with brown eyes and black hair[8]

In 1900, Charles (age 13) was living with his parents in a rented home in Cowan Township, Wayne, Missouri, United States. At this young age he was working along side his father as a teamster, using mules in the logging industry. He would work in this industry most of his life.[2][9]

In 1910, Charles (age 23) and his wife Effie, were living with his parents in Central, Madison, Missouri, United States. Charles was working as a laborer in a sawmill. [10] HIs mother confirmed she had 12 children, but only 4 survived. His wife confirmed that she had no children as of yet. [11]

On June 1st, 1917 he would sign his WWI draft card[8], he was working as a laborer in a Saw Mill for John Pruitt in Fredricktown and living there as well. He stated he was born in Zion. [12]

In 1920, Charlie, Effie and their children were living in German, Marquand Township, Madison, Missouri, United States. He was working as a miller in a sawmill. They had four children living at home: Verna Lucille ( age10), Ruby Ellen (age 8), Roy Lee (age 7), and Troy Elvin (age 7), .[6][13]

In 1930 Charles was employed as a manager of a sawmill. He had moved his family to Fredericktown, Madison, Missouri, United States and rented a home for $8.00 a month. Charles and Effie also had two more children. Loy Marvin (age 4) and Wanda Bernice Iris Cooper (age3) [7][14]

In 1940, Charles was working as a Lumber Dealer and a Farmer. They had their own home valued at $600 located in Central Township, Madison, Madison, Missouri, United States.[3] They had a large, extended family living there. There was Charles and Effie, their son Loy (age17), daughter Wanda (age 13), son Floyd (age 9), their son Roy (age 27), Roy's wife Freda (age 25) and Roy's son James L. (age 1). Charles' brother, Clarence (age 24) who helped with the farm, and Effie's great aunt, Eliza Caroline Hedrick Gibson (age 82). [15]

On 4 April 1953, Charles wife Effie died. She was run over by a car as she crossed the road in front of her home. She was 65 years of age. [16]

Death

He died on the 30 May 1975 in Fredericktown, Madison, Missouri and would be buried in the Antioch Cemetery Madison County, Missouri[1][17]

Research Notes

The WWI draft card confirmed he was born in Zion Missouri, however in the 1900 census, J.B. and Sarah Cooper were living in Wayne County, Missouri and moved to Madison county sometime in the next 10 years.
