Since I read that there seems to be much doubt as too little to no ancestry to North America, I would like to interject this to see if there are any facts regarding it.

There is a claim from "The History of Henry County" in Virginia that refers to Ruth Stovall as a descendant of the first Earl of Shaftsbury. Her husband was Col. Abraham Penn. And her parents being listed as "George Stovall Jr. and "Mary Cooper". There is little to no information is to be found about this Mary Cooper. And nothing of a birth date except that in figuring it from Ruth Stovall's birth date 1743, Mary Cooper's may have been around 1715-1720. All ideas and or facts are welcomed.

I think, most properly, instead of his middle name being Ashley, his last name should be "Ashley Cooper". I think the fact that he was referred to as Lord Ashley Cooper means that "Ashley Cooper" was essentially a 2-part unhyphenated last name.
