Biography

James was born in 1831. He was the son of Stephen Payne Cope and Comfort Bolin.

He was living with his parents and siblings in Grundy county, Tennessee in 1850.^[1]

He married Minerva J. Roberts on 11 Jan 1857 in Grundy county, Tennessee.^[2] They had four children.

They moved to Wright county, Missouri in 1857 according to a short biography of James, published in a Wright county, Missouri history book in 1889.^[3]

They were on the 1860 census in Wright county, Missouri.^[4]

Minerva passed away about 1863.

He married Mrs. Malissa (Nichoalds aka Nichols, Nicholds) Young in 1865 in Wright county, Missouri. They had several children.

They were listed in the Wright, Wright, Missouri census in 1870.^[5]

In 1880 and 1900, James, Melissa, and their children were in Elk Creek, Wright, Missouri.^[6][7]

James passed away in 1917 and was buried in Coldwater cemetery in Manes, Wright, Missouri.^[8]
