He enlisted in Co E, Ohio 15th Infantry Regiment on 30 Aug 1861. Promoted to lst Lieutenant on 28 Feb 1865.[1]
Morris Cope was a Civil War veteran who had fought for the Union. Cope relatives of Morris had been active in the Underground Railroad in Ohio during the war, providing safe houses for escaping slaves. [2]
In 1899, Morris was an engineer and owner of the Cope Bridge Company....Morris had moved to Tennessee to build bridges to replace the ones he had destroyed as a soldier in Sherman's army [2]
