NOTE: I added some info.

In the 1860 Census William "A" is in John and Jane's home. William "J" military record indicates he was 29(at time of enlistment in July of 1861) several counties away in Jackson. I did find a William A, age 23 (at enlistment) May 10 1861 in Morgantown, Burke County. Pvt Co. E 6th Regiment NC Infantry Volunteers died Oct 23 1861 at Greenbriar VA of typhoid fever. http://www.fold3.com/image/37654534/http://www.fold3.com/image/37654534/ John H Copeland, fa[father] filed a claim with the war department for this William on Aug 28 1862 Cert 15578 and was paid $25.60
