Biography

John was born in 1818. He is the son of Willis Copeland and Elizabeth Dobbs. ^[1]

John was one of three brothers who moved from Tennessee to Izard Co., Arkansas in 1850. John's two brothers were William and Wesley Copeland. Wesley was born in 1815, John in 1816, and William in 1825.

John Married Sara Jane Harding in 1842. They had four children when they came to Arkansas. Three more children were born once they were in Arkansas. John Wesley Copeland was the second oldest son. He married a widow who had one son. They had one son together named Bucannan before his wife died. John Wesley then married Mary Ann Anderson (Cooper?) on July 4, 1878. They were married by the Rev. Jacob King of the Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. View, Arkansas. They bought a farm near Mt. View and John Wesley spent the rest of his life in Stone County farming and raising cattle. He died on Feb 1, 1917. He is buried at Cooper Hill Cemetery near Mt. View, Arkansas.

John Wesley and Mary Ann had five children - Jennaran Elizabeth b. May 23, 1879; John b. 1881; Lisa Jane b. Oct 26, 1883; Benjamin Franklin b. July 29, 1886. Benjamin married Dora Sutterfield and they had eight children; Ellis, Herve, Edward Carl (E.C.), Bertha, Gertha, Muriel, Morris and Alvin.

Alvin Copeland Married Pairlee (Pearl) Wilson. They were my maternal grandparents.
