Biography

Elizabeth "Bessie" Batchelder Copley was born on 28 Oct 1886 in Monterey County, California, USA. She was the daughter of William Stilwell Copley, 1855–1929, and his wife, Isabel (Gorsline) Copley, 1857-1949. They had been married on 12 January 1879, in King City, Monterey, California, United States.

On 4 December 1908, in San Jose, Santa Clara County, California, Bessie Copley married Zina Zebina Dowd Jr., 1888–1955.[1] The couple lived on a family farm in San Joaquim County, California, and had 2 children:

  1. Unknown child Dowd, 1909–1917
  2. Wilbur Zina Dowd, 1912–1991

After September 1917, when he declared himself married with 2 children, Bessie Copley divorced Zina Z. Dowd.[2]

On 23 May 1923, in Bakersfield, Kern County, California, Thomas C. Bonine married 36-year-old divorcee, Elizabeth "Bessie" Batchelder (Copley) Dowd, b: 28 October 1886; d: 14 January 1969. [3] Bessie had one living son by her previous marriage. She and Tom Bonine had no known children together.

On the 1930 US Census, Thomas and Bess Bonine were recorded as 38 and 39 years old, respectively, married, living on a rented farm in Porterville Township, Tulare County, California, USA. He was working as a "Farm Laborer". [4]

While they were still living in Porterville in 1935, according to the 1 April 1940 US Census, between then and 1940 they moved out of Tulare County to Glendale, Los Angeles County, California, where they were both recorded as 48 years old, living in a rented house, not a farm, in Glendale, California. Tom was working as an "Oil Tool Mechanic". [5]

Thomas Cornelius Bonine passed away at 74 years old on 5 October 1965 in Los Angeles County, California, USA.[6] He was a US Army Veteran from World War I (Service: 23 Jun 1918 - 30 Jun 1919). [7] Tom C. Bonine was buried near his Bonine relatives at Hillcrest Cemetery, Porterville, Tulare County, California, USA.[8] [9]

Elizabeth "Bessie" (Copley) Bonine survived her husband's passing. She moved north to San Mateo County, California, where she died on 14 January 1969 at 82 years old.[10] She was buried next to her husband of 42 years, Thomas C. Bonine, at Hillcrest Cemetery, Porterville, Tulare County, California, USA. [11]
