During the 1850 US Census:

William Copley, age 59, was living in Lawrence, Kentucky, with his wife, Nancy Copley, age 21, and their children

Thomas Copley, son, age 18

Aley Copley, son, age 16

Nichols Copley, son, age 12

Marinda Copley, daughter, age 7

Dwelling #984 Family #1005, race: white. William and Nancy were born in Virginia and the children in Kentucky. William's occupation is a Farmer and Thomas is Farming. William's real estate owned is valued at $1,500. William and Nancy are persons over age 20 that cannot read and write. The children did not attend school during the year.

On November 1st, 1866 Nicholas Copley, age 27, married Julia Ann Crabtree, age 18, in Lawrence, Kentucky.

Edith, Myrtle and Lillian attended school during the year.

Nicholas Copley was declared an Army invalid and was beneficiary of United States Veterans Administration Pension. His date of death is July, 1920.

Biography and Sources

Nicholas Copley[1] was born in September 1837 in Lawrence County, Kentucky, the child of William Copley and Nancy Williamson[2]. He married Julia Ann Crabtree on November 1, 1866, in Lawrence County, Kentucky[3]. He died about 1920[4], in Wayne, West Virginia, at the age of 83.
