Daniel Copp was born 04 Aug 1770 at New London [1], Connecticut, the seventh child of Joseph Copp and Rachel Denison.
He went into shipping and trading business in St. Marys, and St. Augustine, Florida. Said to have been appointed Mayor of St. Augustine by Gen. Andrew Jackson. In 1795 he built a house in Gales Ferry which later remained the village Post Office until 1898.
Daniel Copp married in 1795 Sarah Allyn (1775-1836), daughter of Dea. Joseph Allyn (1736-1813) & Mary (Belton) Allyn (1739-1813) of Ledyard, Connecticut. They had 8 children during the timeframe between 1796 and 1819.
Daniel Copp died 10 Jan 1822 in St. Augustine, Florida, probably of yellow fever, as there was an epidemic sweeping the area at that time. He was buried in a Huguenot cemetery beyond the city walls.
