William emigrated from England to New Zealand with his mother and some of his siblings.
He married Sarah Newdick on 5 March 1868 at St Matthew's Church in Auckland, New Zealand:

They went on to have eight children.
His wife Sarah passed away in 1908.
William passed away in 1913 at the age of 69.
