He enlisted as Private in Company C, 12th Batallion, Tennessee Calvary, CSA, at Knoxville, Tennessee, for 3 years on 15 Sep 1862. He was in CSA (Confederate States of America) hospital at Montgomery White Sulphur Springs, Montgomery County, Virginia, on 11 Aug ????. Apparently captured by Union soldiers later because he was paroled to Claiborne County, Tennessee, on 26 Apr 1865 at Cumberland Gap, Kentucky.
After the war he returned to Claiborne County and began farming, the occupation he followed the rest of his life. He owned his farm free of mortgage. He married Sarah A. Breeding on 17 October 1875 in Claiborne County, Tennessee. He died on 12 March 1909 on Raven Ridge in Tazewell, Claiborne County, Tennessee[3] and was originally buried in Jennings Cemetery the TVA[4] relocated the remains to Wright Cemetery in 1935 due to the construction of the Norris Reservoir.
