Biography

Ambrose CORBIN was born circa 1723 at Spotsylvania Co., VA. He married "Jane" Jean Crawford, granddaughter of William Crawford, circa 1757. He died before 19 Dec 1808 at Pittsylvania Co., VA. His inventory was recorded on 6 Dec 1821 at Chatham, Pittsylvania Co., VA. Daniel Terry & William Motley were ordered by the Court to take inventory. His estate was probated on 19 Dec 1808 at Chatham, Pittsylvania Co., VA; recorded at the Court House in Will Book# 11 Page# 329.26 His estate was probated on 21 Oct 1821 at Chatham, Pittsylvania Co., VA; at the Court House.

He lived at Culpeper Co., VA. He witnessed the land of Thomas Corbin in Feb 1747/48 at Culpeper Co., VA; who had 329 acres surveyed for himself in the Fork of Crooked Run, Ambrose Corbin carried the chains. He sells this land in 1751 to Tilmam Viscarber. Ambrose Corbin carried the chains. He witnessed the land of Jeremiah Corbin on 30 Jul 1750 at Culpeper Co., VA; who had surveyed 416 acres of land for himself in the Northern Neck, Ambrose Corbin carried the chains.

He and William Corbin Sr. sued and recovered a judgement against William Crawford in 1761 at Fauquire Co., VA.8 He was in the tax records with son John who was listed as a son of Ambrose Corbin by Stephen Coleman, tax collector in 1779 at Pittsylvania Co., VA. On 15 Jun 1779 Ambrose Corbin who purchased 100 acres of land from Rubin White located on South side of John's run. Recorded in Deed Book# 5 Pages# 170-171 the land is in Pittsylvania Co., VA. He and sons John and William are listed in tax records in 1780 at Pittsylvania Co., VA.

He and son William are listed in tax record in 1781 at Pittsylvania Co., VA. He was listed on Page# 41 with 12 Tithes tax records in 1782 at Pittsylvania Co., VA. He was in the tax records which lists him with 12 tithes in 1783 at Pittsylvania Co., VA. On 12 Mar 1785 Ambrose Corbin who purchased 226 acres of land from Reubin Pain, recorded in Deed Book# 7 Page# 517 the land is in Pittsylvania Co., VA. He was in the tax records and has four Horses and eleven Cattle. His son David Corbin was living with him in 1787 at Pittsylvania Co., VA. He appeared on the census 1790 at Pittsylvania Co., VA; recorded on Roll# T498-3 and has twelve tithes. This census started on 2 August and was to be completed in 9 months. On 24 Mar 1790 Ambrose Corbin Deed Book# 10 Pages# 340-341 shows that he sells 100 acres of land to Isham Farmer, sale names Ambrose's wife as "Jane" the land is in Pittsylvania Co., VA. He was in the tax records which lists him with 50 and 126 acres of land in 1793 at Pittsylvania Co., VA.28

He was appointed as guardian of Jamerson Corbin, Thompson Corbin and Mary Corbin, children of his deceased son William Corbin, recorded in Court Order Book# 10 Page# 34 on 15 Jul 1801 at Pittsylvania Co., VA. On 17 Sep 1803 Ambrose Corbin who purchases 50 acres of land from Daniel Motley, Deed Book# 13 Page# 439. Land is located on the South side of John's run of Sweetings Fork the land is in Pittsylvania Co., VA. He was in the tax records which lists 126 acres and the name "Mottlet" with 50 acres in 1804 at Pittsylvania Co., VA. He was in the tax records which lists 50 and 126 acres in 1805 at Pittsylvania Co., VA. He was in the tax records which lists 50 and 126 acres in 1806 at Pittsylvania Co., VA. He left a will on 3 Aug 1807 written in at Pittsylvania Co., VA; lists wife Jinny-Janny, Daughters: Molly, Sally and Betsy, a slave Dinah and the words" All my Children", executor: son David Corbin. Witnesses: Robert Leftwich, John Saunders and Strother Crawford.

3. David, b. c. 1762; d. bef. 5 Aug. 1836 Pittsylvania County.

4. Joshua, ; m. Edith Wilson Vadin (dau. of Burwell Vadin and Sarah Wilson) 29 Nov. 1798 Pittsylvania Co.; apparently died 1814 Pittsylvania Co.; widow Edith in Logan Co., KY in 1850 census with son Hamilton.

5. Thomas, b. bef. 1766, m. Mary "Polly" ----.

6. Sarah "Sally", b. c. 1769, d. bef. June 1821 Pittsylvania County.

7. Randolph, b. c. 1770. His Pittsylvania will (1 Sep. 1822) mentions brothers David and Thomas, Thomas's daughter Louisa, nieces Paulina and Sally Myers, and Benjamin Myers' sons Hartwell, William, and Christopher.

8. Nancy Ann, b. c. 1773; m. William Myers (son of George Myers and Mary Davis) 14 Apr. 1791 at Pittsylvania County. See MYERS family.

9. Molly / Milley, b. c. 1776.
