Biography

Richard Corder was born between 1784-1786, probably in Montgomery or Tazewell County, VA. He was a son of Edward Jr. and Susannah Oney Corder. He married around 1800, probably in Montgomery Co VA, to Jane Bratcher (Bradshaw) a daughter of Charles and Nancy Robinson Bratcher. Jane died bet 4 Jul 1840 and 4 Oct 1841 (when Richard remarried to Mary "Polly" Grimes). Richard may have had another wife, possibly a Martha Surratt.

Records for Richard Corder:

Note: The 1902 newspaper article about Martha Jane Corder Zimmerman Hix which implies that Richard Corder's father was "Blanchett Corder" is incorrect, per Estelle Corder (who rarely minced words): "There is no such thing as Blanchett Corder. Ann Auburg and I worked on that name because we found it in a book...Ann ran that name down piece by piece and there was not even anything that even looked like Blanchett Corder. If anyone used that information that someone put in a book, then they are wrong."

1809 Tazewell Co VA Richard Corder is listed on the personal property tax list.

1810 Tazewell Co VA Richard Corder is listed on the personal property tax list.

1811 Tazewell Co VA Richard Corder is listed on the personal property tax list.
