Harold was born on July 17, 1893, in Liverpool, Lancashire, England. His parents were John Corlett, and Sarah Dumbell. Harold was the last, of eleven children. He was baptized on September 27, 1893, at Saint Saviour Church, Everton, Liverpool. Harold resided with his parents, and siblings, until his emigration to New Zealand, about 1909.
Harold was employed by the Union Steamship Company from 1909 until his entry into the New Zealand Army in 1915. He entered the company as a "Junior", was listed as a "Crews All" on a voyage in 1910, then as an "Assistant Purser" aboard three different ships from 1911 to 1913.
Percy joined the New Zealand Army in 1916. He was a member of the 3rd Auckland Regiment, Auckland Infantry Regiment, A Company. Regimental Number 12/3595. He saw overseas duty in Egypt, in 1916, and France, in 1918, where he was exposed to mustard gas while in the trenches. He was affected from the gassing the rest of his life.
Harold was married to Dorothy Esther Rhodes in St. Heliers Bay, Auckland, New Zealand, in 1923. They would have one child. Harold and Dorothy divorced in 1927. Both would remain in Auckland until their deaths. Harold passed away on July 21, 1979. His funeral service was held July 24, 1979, at Schnapper Rock Cemetery, Albany, North Shore City, Auckland, New Zealand. (Also known as North Shore Memorial Park). Harold was eighty six.
