Biography

Vincent Corley was born the 24th of July, 1800 in Edgefield County, South Carolina. Vincent was the son of Valentine Corley and Sarah Allen.

Vincent appears in the 1830 Federal census in Edgefield County, South Carolina.[1] Vincent's household appeared as follows:

1 male age 20 to 29
1 female under age 5
1female age 20 to 29

Vincent appears in the 1850 Federal census in Meriwether County, Georgia.[2] Vincent's household appeared as follows:

Vincent appears in the 1860 Federal census in Meriwether County, Georgia.[3] Vincent's household appeared as follows:

Vincent's father Valentine Corley died intestate sometime before January 1860 in Meriwether County, Georgia. Vincent was administrator of his father's estate. The following authorization of the court in Meriwether County for the inventory and appraisement of Valentine Corley's estate as shown by Vincent to the appraisers: "Georgia Meriwether County By Davis C. Gresham Ordinary for said County to William Beauchamp Benjamin Reams Green Reeves William Thompson & George W. Kenedy These are to authorize & empower you or any three of you, whose names are here above written to attend & appraise the goods & chattels of Valentine Corley late of said county, deceased, in dollars & cents, so far as the same shall be produced to you by Vincent Corley Administrator of said deceased, or come to your knowledge or sight ready money excepted, you having first taken oathe before some justice of the peace for said county well & truly so to do, a certificate of which you are required to return annexed to the appraisement, and when the same you have appraised you are to return an inventory there of signed by three or more of you unto the said court within the time prescribed by law together with this warrant. Witness my hand & seal this ninth day of January 1860 [signed] Davis C. Gresham O.M.G."[4]

Vincent filed the following bill of sale of the estate of his father, Valentine Corley, with the court in Meriwether county: "A bill of sale made of the effects of Valentine Corley Dec'd March 14th 1860 - 1 hoe to J.P. Mclane - .25 cents; 1 grindstone to V. Corley - .25 cents; 1 hammer to V. Corley - .25 cents; 1 pr. plow gear to V. Corley - .50 cents; 1 sorrel mare to V. Corley - $27.00 [signed] Vincent Corley Adm'r"[5]
