Austin W. Corley was born about 1809 in Edgefield District South Carolina.
Austin appears in the 1850 Federal census in Meriwether county, Georgia.[1] Austin's household appeared as follows:
Austin's wife Nancy filed suit in Meriwether Superior Court against her husband and others. The suit reads as follows: "Meriwether Superior Court Nancy Corley, by her next friend and Trustee, Levi M. Adams, vs Austin W. Corley, her husband, and John Jones and others, Creditors, &c., and John Bledsoe and others, Co Distributees - Dill for Distribution and Relief, in Meriwether Superior Court, August Term, 1857 The complainant in the above cause having prayed, in her said Bill for a Distribution of the negroes given in trust by John and Ann Arlidge to Mark Mathis, for the use and benefit of Complainant's mother, Esther Weeks and her children, during the lifetime of the said Esther, and at her death to be distributed equally amongst the children, and that the portion of said negroes accruing to Complainant upon said distribution, may be decreed to her for the sole and separate use of herself and children, exempt from the control or liabilities of her said husband; and a portion of said Distributees to wit: Lewis Bledsoe in right of his wife Matilda, deceased; John Bledsoe in right of his wife Eliza, and Berryman Bledsoe, being residents of the State of South Carolina, and William Adams in right of his wife Martha, being a resident of Alabama, as appears from siad Bill. It is, on motion of Complainant's counsel, ordered by the Court, that said Lewis Bledsoe, husband of Matilda, deceased, John Bledsoe and wife Eliza, Berryman Bledsoe, and William Adams and wife Martha, be and appears at the next Superior Court, to be held in and for said county, on the 3d Monday in February next, then and there to plead, answer or demur, not demuring alone. And that this order be served by publication in Augusta Constitutionalist, a public newspaper of this State, once a month for four months after the adjournment of this Court. By the Court. Geo. A. Austin died about 1868 in Dougherty County, Georgia.
