My second great grandparents Max and Hannah were Russian immigrants. They spoke Yiddish and records were found for Max’s naturalization in 1888. Hannah’s maiden name was confirmed to be Steinberg when I located a detailed record of their eldest daughter Rosie’s marriage in 1905. Max’s occupation was documented as a Furrier.

What follows is a timeline taken directly from the records.

1890 US DNE records destroyed in fire on January 10, 1921.

1892 NY Record for this family not found.

1900 US

Manhattan, NY- residing on Second Street; 6/4/1900

Max 38 , Hannah 36

children: Rosie 19, Annie 13, Saul 6, Jennie 4, Victor 1

1905 NY

Manhattan, NY - residing on East 114th Street; 6/1/1905

Max 43, Hannah 40

children: Rose 22, Solomon 11, Jennie 9, Victor 6

1910 US

Manhattan, NY -residing on West 114th Street; 4/19/1910

Max 47 , Hannah 45; married for 29 years

children: Solomon 15, Jeanie 13, Victor 11

Noted on this census Hannah had 4 children, 3 living. This is conflicting information as 1900 has 5 children. Rosie was married in 1905. I wonder if the census notation meant children who would be living in the home at this time, thus referring to Annie’s death. I was not sure. I can’t find any further information related to Annie Corman; death or marriage.

Their older child found on census records living in their own homes: Rose w/ Samuel

Max Corman died in 1914. He appears on interment records at Mount Zion with a burial date of April 1, 1914.

1920 US

Manhattan, NY -residing on West 111th Street; 1/14/1920

Anna 53; widow & head of household

children: Jean 23, Victor 21, Seymour (nephew) 11

Their older children found on census records living in their own homes: Rose w/Samuel, Saul w/Rose

Records have not been found for Hannah Corman’s death. She does not appear on the 1930 census records that I found for any of her children living with their families.
