Joseph Cornell is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A026133.

Joseph Cornel (only one L) whose rightly spelled surname was "Cornelise", a Dutch surname. In it's original French spelling it is "Corneli" with the accent on the letter "E." However some time after the English took over control of New York it was corrupted to the English "Cornell" which has confused the research for the original ancestors. This family was originally French Huguenot. (See the book entitled; "Register Of Huguenot Ancestors" compiled by Georgia Nellie Chandler Cobb copyrighted By The National Huguenot Society 1975)

Marriage: Jannetje Van Couwenhoven to Joseph "Coernel" sourced from page 27 in article on Albert Couwenhoven and his twelve children within of Early Settlers of Monmouth Co. New Jersey by Beekman, George Crawford. [1] [2]

I had adopted these profiles in an effort to clean up duplicates from a gedcom import in Feb 2011.

Is this Joseph Cornel the man who was born about 1709 in Flatbush, N.Y. and died in 1778 in Millstone, N.J.? The Cornell Genealogy only says her name was Jannetje without her maiden name. What is the reference that you found that gave her maiden name as Couvenhoven? I'll accept a church record or a Will which identifies her maiden name but not just the ancestrial File Number.

Cornell-3942 and Cornell-2562 appear to represent the same person because: one more to merge. I could do some of the others as the profiles are abandoned
