Biography

Jacob Cornell was a son of Richard Cornell and his wife Elisabeth. He was born 31 August 1669.[1]

His wife was named Hester or Esther (these are variants of the same name). The family bible of Richard Cornell identifies Jacob's wife as Hester Paine and gives their date of marriage as 30 December 1698.[1] This is, however, contradicted by a deed of sale executed on 9 Feb 1698/9 (just a bit more than a month after the reported date of the marriage) in which Jacob Cornell and his wife Esther Phillips, together with Martha Phillips (presumably her sister), sold their portion of land and meadows that Esther and Martha had inherited from their grandfather, Richard Owen of Newtown, Long Island.[2]

Jacob and Hester Cornell had eleven children, according to the Family Bible.[3]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jacob by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jacob:
