Biography

Herbert was born about 1880.

His residence is listed in his daughter Vera's 1908 baptism record as 98 Waverley Street. She was baptised in a Primitive Methodist chapel.

Herbert's daughter's 1908 baptism record lists him a a Sign Writer. Likewise, according to his wife's death entry, he was a sign writer and decorator. His grandson, Derek Mayes, recalled in a note (I suspect to his brother) that Herbert painted the ceiling of Holy Trinity Church, Hull prior to the war.

His daughter Vera's marriage certificate records his profession as 'Painter'.

He died on 20th June 1960 at the Kingston General Hospital, Hull. His entry of death lists his residence as being 36 Stanley Avenue.
