George Cornish, was a private in the American army during the Revolutionary War. He served in Captain Abel Pettibone's Company, Col. Belden's Regiment, Connecticut Militia.[5] He was subsequently drafted at Simsbury (18th Regiment) for several additional tours with Connecticut's militia.[6]
He received a pension for Revolutionary War service.[7]
He wrote a will 21 Jan 1833, with a codicil on 18 April 1838 and 28 October 1839.[8] Named in his will: daughters Lucy, Lavinia (?? Lodema), Olivia, Althena(?), Emma, Melissa, Ursula; grandson Edward; son George. The April 1838 codicil added son George to inherit along with his sisters. His will was proved on 2 Dec 1841.[8] The inventory of his estate totaled $7242.90. George Cornish was the executor. Assets were sold and proceeds distributed.
Deacon George Cornish was 81 years old when he died 21 Nov 1841 in Simsbury, Connecticut.[9][10][11] and was buried in Simsbury Cemetery.[12]
Research Notes
The will is an interesting read. He gave four of his daughters a couple of rooms in the house and access via specified stairs and gave the other four daughters the other half of the house. If any of his daughters asked for assistance from ??? Mitchelson, then they forfeited their inheritance.
