Frances Geraldine Cornwell was born on 4 March 1872 at Milan, Dutchess County, New York. She was the daughter of Julius W. Cornell and Geraldine Frost.
In the 1880 census she was enumerated in the household of her parents in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess County.
On 18 August 1885, Frances Geraldine Cornwell became a member by confession (adult baptism) of the First Presbyterian Church, Pleasant Valley, Dutchess County, New York.
She was married to William Elvington Leak on 3 September 1890 in Poughkeepsie.
The family lived in Arlington, Town of Poughkeepsie, as noted in the censuses of 1910 and 1920. By 1933 they were living at 33 Hammersley Avenue in Poughkeepsie, where husband William died in August, 1934
After his death, Francis stayed with her daughters or other relatives. She lived with daughter Jennie until the latter died in 1962, then she lived with granddaughter Marion (Means) Ammann and family in Hopkinton, Massachusetts.
By 1965 she was living in a nursing home in Framingham, Massachusetts and later in Westview, Cuyahoga County, Ohio when Marion's family moved to the Cleveland area.
She died on 22 March 1968 in Westview. She was buried in the Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Pleasant Valley, Dutchess County, New York.
