Elizabeth was born before 5 June 1761, when she was baptized with her parents and siblings at St. George's Church, Hempstead, Queens County, New York. She was the daughter of William Cornwell and Hannah Smith. [1]
In 1780, she was named in the will of her paternal grandfather, Edward Cornell. [2]
