Hi Tom, I'm Mary Richardson, a Mentor. Here are some helps for you. Go slow for accuracy, add your family one at a time, recheck, then SAVE.
Check out How To Use WikiTree. It's a great step-by-step guide to get you started.
We want to just add just one profile per person. Please make sure to look for duplicates on WikiTree before adding a profile. Try to add DOB, DOD, locations, references to each person assists in our mission as well!
Hi Thomas! Thank you for volunteering to help grow our World Wide Family Tree.
You are now a member of the WikiTree Community. Please note we are trying to build one Collaborative Tree which means one profile per person. It is important to ensure no duplicates are entered as you add any Profiles to WikiTree. Everything on WikiTree is a collaborative work in progress so dont forget to read and sign our Honor Code. This is what keeps WikiTree a friendly and helpful community. We have many friendly members, feel free to ask if you have any questions.
I intend on volunteering contributions to WikiTree. I am in the process of transferring my database from The Master Genealogy program that has been recently discontinued to Legacy 8. The transfer via GEDCOM was sloppy to say the least. Soo now I am cleaning up the errors and lost information. I have over 8000 persons to check. I am moving as fast as I can and trying not to miss something important. I will upload the database when I can ensure that living relative information is protected.
Welcome to WikiTree as a guest! We're growing a FREE worldwide family tree, striving for ONE collaborative profile for every person.
A couple suggestions to get you started:
1. Our honor code is a very important part of why our community is such a friendly place to grow your family tree so please read it and make sure you agree with our mission and our nine simple rules. http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:Honor_Code
2. Feel free to ask a question at our G2G Forum
If you would like to contribute, leave a comment here on your profile and we would be glad to add you to our WikiTree community.
Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few more features you may find useful.
Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards, including some tips on writing biographies.
If you need to describe an event, an heirloom or a location relevant to your research, you may like to learn about Free Space Profiles.
Lastly, sometimes you'll run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving those unfortunate situations.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask via my profile page.
