Biography

Annie Ruth Correll was born January 21, 1901 in China Grove, Rowan County, North Carolina; one of eight children born to parents Charles Correll and Annie Kluttz .^[1]

Sometimes known as Annie, others listed as Ruth, she lived with her parents through the 1920 Census.^[2] Her father died in 1929 (right at the Great Depression) and it appears from the 1930 Census that Annie Ruth and her mother continued living together, moving from China Grove to Kannapolis, Cabarrus County, North Carolina.^[3]

It is unclear how much education Annie Ruth had before age 18 but she could read and write, indicating some level was attained through school or at home. She would also start working in the cotton mills before age eighteen (a very common trade for the SW region part of NC during the time) because she appears as a "Weaver" on the 1920 Census at that age.^[4] She spent decades in the mills. Her title in 1930 was "Draw In Hand"^[5] and in 1940 she was listed as a main room Weaver^[6] In 1950 she was again listed as a "Draw In Hand"^[7] (researching this later and will include)- Becky Elizabeth Simmons.

Annie passed away June 8, 1981^[8] from "acute pyelonephritis" ^[9] in Concord, Cabarrus County, North Carolina and she was buried June 10, 1981.^[10] at Greenlawn Cemetery in China Grove, Rowan County, North Carolina. ^[11]
