He married 1st Abigail __?__.

He married 2nd on 29 Sep 1757 to Mary Gardiner (aka Gard) who was born in 1732/4 and died 22 Oct(?) 1798; she is said to be the daughter of David Gardiner and Elizabeth Wickham. See Research Notes.

"In 1775, he signed the engagement to support Congress. In 1776, census list 412 shows that he had 1 male, 3 females over 16, and 4 children in his family."[1]

Jeremiah Corwin married 1) Mary(1732-98) (no last name recoded here) They were the parents of Mattias.

"Jeremiah Corwin (1735-1821) served in the 1st regiment of Minute Men under Capt. Paul Reeves and Col. Thomas Terry. Was a signer of the Association Test, Long Island, N. Y., 1775. He was born and died in Aquebogue, L. I" [2]

Jeremiah Corwin (DAR ID Number: 150225) was born in 1733 in Aquebogue, Suffolk County, New York , and died 22 Oct 1821 in Riverhead, Suffolk County. He married 1) Mary, born c1734 in Southold, and died 22 Oct 1798 in Riverhead (see research note below); and 2) Abigail ___ after 1799 on Long Island. She was born c 1735 in Southold. Research Notes

It is certainly possible that Jeremiah died on the anniversary of his first wife's death. It is also possible that the repetition is a typo, which is a common error.

Norris states that Jeremiah married 1) Mary Gardiner 29 Sep 1757 in Southold, Suffolk County New York, daughter of David & Elizabeth (Wickham) Gardiner. Mary was born c1734 in Southold, and died 22 Oct 1798 in Riverhead. However that Mary Gardine(1747-1824) was born in 1747, married Thomas Coit and died in 1824. She did have a sister Martha bc 1732 who might have been Jeremiah's wife or his wife "Mary Gard. " in the Salmon record could have been someone else entirely unrelated to the Gardiners of Gardiners' Island.[3] The profile of Elizabeth (Wickham) Gardiner (1712-1769) lists a daughter Mary born in 1747 who married Thomas Coit. It also lists a daughter Martha born c 1732. There is no information on either Martha or Mary beyond their names in the Gardiner Genealogy cited[4] However Mary does appear to be well documented through the Barbour Collection - New London, New London County, Connecticut, 1646 - 1854 Vital Records; Transcribed by Coralynn Brown [5]

The Salmon records include the marriage of Jeremiah Corwin and Abigil Overton 27 Mar 1800. Also on 29 Sep 1757 there is an entry that reads in transcription:

" ...emy Curwin and Mary Gard."[6]

There is another Mary Gardiner, daughter of a different David & Elizabeth who appears in that David's bible transcribed in NEH&GR v60.

"Mary Gardiner ye daughter of David and Elizabeth Gardiner was born A.D. 1746 May 12."

The David referred to was born 3 June 1718 and died 17 Jan 1776. His paternal line is given as David, John, David, Lion.[7]

This still doesn't solve the problem of Jeremiah's first child being born in 1758 when this Mary would have been 12. Possible - yes; likely - I'd rather think not.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jeremiah by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jeremiah:
