Biography

John was born July 5, 1852 in San Jose, California. He is the son of Eli Corwin and Henrietta Howell.[1] He married Helen Elizabeth Harris in New Jersey on June 2, 1879.[2] and they had quite a good-sized family.

From the Stanford Genealogy, Comprising the Descendants of Abner Stanford, the Revolutionary Soldier:[3] “He is a graduate of Williams College, class of 1875, and a lawyer of the firm of Harris, Corwin, Gunnison and Meyers, at 150 Nassau St., N.Y. City. They reside at Yonkers, N.Y. All the children except one, were born at Elizabeth.

Howard Field, b. July 25, 1880 and d. at Canton, N.Y., Jan. 21, 1903, while a student in St. Lawrence University.
Carolyn Estelle, b. January 19, 1882; she was unmarried, Feb., 1906.
Evelyn, b. (twin) June 22, 1887.
Walter, b. (twin) June 22, 1887.
Helen Cecil, b. August 21, 1890.
Clinton Sherwood, b. at Yonkers, Sep 24, 1896."

The family seems to be based firmly in Yonkers, Westchester Co., New York.[4][5][6][7][8] In 1925, he was 72 years old. I have not found a record indicating where or when he died.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his ancestors' Y-chromosome or mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
