He was the son of François Côté and Madeleine Fortier.
He remarries on 9 July 1844 in L'Ange-Gardien with Marie Verreault, daughter of François Verrault and Marie Chatelran (possibly Petsiamiskueu and other variations, native woman). Marie is of age when she marries.
