He never married. According to Jesse W. White, compiler of Cotter Family, Lewie "...lived with his parents as long as they lived and then lived alone in the family farm house until just before his death...As a young man he had one lung removed because of disease. For this reason he was turned down by the armed services during World War II. Most of his life he walked where ever he went, preferring to walk rather than accept a ride. His lifelong occupations were farming and cutting pulp wood."[7]
Death and Burial: He passed away on 24 July 1992 in Crenshaw County, Alabama.[2] He was buried in Old Tabernacle Cemetery, New Brockton, Coffee County, Alabama.[8]
