William was born about 1763 in Cloonanaha near Inagh in County Clare, Ireland, the son of William Cotter and ?? Barry. He married Bridget Burke in about xx. She joined him to farm in Cloonanaha where he had land passed down to him as the fourth of seven generations of William Cotter to farm land there. They had six children together. He passed away about 1831 in Cloonanaha.
