Mollie (Cotton) Brown was a Virginia colonist.
Mollie (Cotton) Brown was an early pioneer in the Indiana Territory.

Mary Jane (Cotton) Brown was born on January 27, 1770 or 1772 in Loudon County, Virginia. Her parents were Ralph Cotton (~1742 - 1817) and Elizabeth (Kitchen) Cotton (~1742 - 1832).

Her brother was (1776 - 1839).

Mary married Johnston Brown (1772 - 1869) on January 13, 1795 in Nelson County, Kentucky.

In the 1820 census Mary was in Craig, Switzerland, Indiana, United States.[1]

Their son was Samuel Brown (~1796 - 1885).

Mary died on October 12, 1823 in Switzerland, Indiana, United States aged 53. She is buried in Cotton Cemetery Mount Sterling, Indiana.[2]

Research Notes

Mary's calculated year of birth, based on the inscription on her grave marker, would be 1770. However, according to the following, her year of birth was 1772.

Cotton-Talbot Bible Records from Old Family Bible of the Cotton Family. Ralph Cotton, son of John Ralph Cotton, born 10 January 1752 married Elizabeth, daughter of William Kitchen, Loudon County, Virginia. [3] Children:

  4. Jemima born 8 August 1769.
  5. Mary Jane born 27 January 1772.

  10. Ralph born 17 January 1786
  11. Robert born 4 September 1788.
