Biography

HERBERT EARL "Sonny" COTTRILL, 64, of National Pike, Clear Spring, died Monday, March 21, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Medical Hospital at Baltimore, Md. Born Sept. 14, 1940, in Security, Md., he was the son of the late William Cottrill and Hattie Mae Domer Cottrill.

He was of the Protestant faith and was employed as a carpenter with various contractors. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having earned the following awards, National Defense Service Medal, Marksman Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar, Expert Qualification Badge with Carbine Bar and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Dominican Republic).

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Patricia Jean Shoemaker Cottrill of Clear Spring; a special son, Scott Douglas Cottrill; another son, Sonny Cottrill Jr.; a daughter, Yvonne Brown; four sisters, Betty Hose of Williamsport, Shirley Whittaker of Point of Rocks, Md., Freida Dayhoff of Security, Md., and Sherry Potts of Falling Waters, WV; a special granddaughter; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Judy Morningstar and one brother, Lee Domer.

Services were held at Donald Edwin Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Clear Spring. Burial was in the Little Rose Hill Cemetery of Clear Spring.
