Name

The family name Coté has numeous spellings. The patriarch of the Coté family in North America, Jean (~1610-1661) clearly signed his name as "Jean Costé" and he was listed as "Jean Coste" in the registry of the ship Le St-Jean on arrival in Québec in 1634. Coste or Costé is considered the Old World spelling. In Québec, the family name has generally been standardized as Coté or Côté. Jean Baptiste, subject of this bio, was named Costé at baptism and marriage, and Coté at burial.

Cote-2607 and Coté-305 appear to represent the same person because: Clear duplicate, even the reference given refers to the Jean Baptiste Coté (Coté-305) who was married to Marguerite Thibodeau and who was the father of Julienne Coté
