Joseph Gaylord Couch was the son of Raymond W Couch and Scharlette B Schrader Couch born May 26, 1927 in Lukin township, Lawrence County Illinois. His father was a teacher during his childhood; Joe worked on the farm as a child. When he registered for WWIII Joe stated that he was 6’ weighed about 160 pounds, and had green eyes and brown hair. He served with the Marines during the Korean War, having had three Honorable Discharges.
At age 35 Joe married Edna Mae Shake on August 18, 1962 in Vincennes, Knox County, Indiana. The couple had two sons and one daughter. He died January 11, 2011 at his home at age 83. He was a retired farmer and Standard Oil agent. Entombment was in Moffit cemetery with military rites.
