William P. Couch was born in Tennessee around 1837. In 1850, he lived in Warren County, Tennessee.[1] He married Susan Harwell in Arkansas around 1857.[2]
When the Civil War started, he enlisted in the Union Army on October 28, 1863 as a private. He was assigned to the 2nd Arkansas Infantry, Company E.[3]His unit participated in the Battle of Prairie D'Ane and the engagement at Jenkins Ferry. He mustered out of the service on August 8, 1865.[4]
After the war, he lived in Jefferson Township, Newton County, Arkansas near the Jasper post office. He farmed to earn a living.[2] In 1880, he lived in Roaring River, Barry County, Missouri. He continued to farm.[5]
