He died on 31 July 1917, killed in action and is honoured in Panel 44 at the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium [3].

Research note

The Common Weath War Graves Commission web site has several records for Charles Coulson but is scant on details such as date and place of birth, which renders identification difficult. However FindMyPast has a record for a Charles Coulson, born in Withington, Lancashire [4]. This gives his service number of 5538. This can be used on the CWGC site to find the relevant record.
