(1840 Census of Franklin, Tennessee) John Counts household consisted of 1 male under 5, 2 males between 5 and 9, 1 male between 20 and 29, 1 male between 30 and 39, 2 females between 5 and 9, 1 female between 10 and 14, 1 female between 20 and 39, 2 male slaves between the ages of 1 to 23.

(1850 Census of District 3, Franklin, Tennessee.) John Counts aged 47 was a hatter in the apparel and accessories industry. He lived with Mary Ann aged 32 born in Tennessee, Jesse S. Counts aged 20 born TN, George H. Counts aged 18 born TN, Rosanna 15 born TN, Frances J. 13 born TN, John P. 11 born TN, Martha 8 born TN, Mary J. 6 born TN, Sarah S. 3 born TN and David B 1 born TN. Also in the household lived Aron Alexander 1 and Salomea O. Alexander 17 born in Tennessee.

On March 30, 1826, a land grant No. 2971 was recorded. John Counts was issued 50 acres on Indian Creek in Tennessee.[2].
