Biography

Wilburn was born, son of William Carroll Counts and Ola Myrtle Ferguson Counts on April 14, 1916.

The Counts family are residing in Jackson, Reynolds, Missouri in 1920. Wilburn is 4 years of age having been born in 1916. The census records shows that the entire family were born in Missouri. ^[1]

Wilburn is residing in the household of his parents in Jackson, Reynolds, Missouri in 1930. The census lists he was born in 1917 because he is 13 years of age at the time the census was taken on April 3, 1930. He would turn 14 on April 14, 1930 which means his birth year was actually 1916. Wilburn has six sisters and one brother that are also included in the household. They were all born in Missouri. ^[2]

He married Hazel Irene Hudson December 12, 1939 in Jefferson City, Cole, Missouri. ^[3]

In 1940, Wilburn is married to Hazel and they are residing in Reynolds, Jackson Township, Reynolds, Missouri with their newborn child also named Wilburn. The census lists he is 24 years of age, born in Missouri and a farmer.^[4]

They lived on the "Counts Family" Farm. I am not sure how many acres, but it was a bunch. ^[3]

They raised 3 boys and one girl; Wilburn Jr., LaFern, Carl, and Gale. We would all gather there every weekend. I don't know how everyone slept in a one bedroom house with a loft upstairs, but they did.^[3]

Grandpa always had horses or ponies for us to ride. He loved his horses. I shared that love and we went to many horses shows over the years.^[3]

He did many things, he logged, owned his own sawmill, raised cattle, baled hay, and farmed his land, He was the preacher who married me (the second time).^[3]

Most of all he was a family man. He loved his children, his grandchildren, and his Great-grandchildren. I miss my grandpa aka "Pickle." ^[3]

He passed away in 1995 and was laid to rest in R. L. D. S. Cemetery, Ellington, Reynolds, Missouri, United States. ^[5]
