Sir William Courtenay was the son and heir of Sir William Courtenay and Margaret Bonville.[1]

He married Cicely, daughter of Sir John Cheney of Pinhoe.[1][2][3] They had issue:

  • William, married Margaret Edgcombe and Mary Gainsford[1][2]
  • James, married Ann Basset[1]
  • Piers, married Jane Rayley[1]
  • Elizabeth[1][2]
  • Joan,[2] married William Carew, Knt., of Mohun Ottery[4]
  • Cicely,[1][2] married Nicholas Frauncis[1]
  • Eleanor[1][2]
  • Margaret,[1][2] married Thomas Danvers[1]
  • Anne,[1][2] married Thomas Gibbs[1]

His will was dated 8 September 1511 and proved 10 July 1512.[1] His wife was executrix of his will.[1][5]
