Courtenay was the creator of the "coal torpedo." His device may have caused the explosion aboard the USS Chenango. One of the victims of the explosion is buried at Mt Olivet (Albert S Murray 34435354). The boiler inspector initially blamed for the explosion is also buried at Mt Olivet (Samuel Cragg #34413109).
