Alfred was claimed as the illegitimate child of Alfred Charles Courtney and Mary Katherine Gordon.[1] However, DNA matches suggest he may have been the legitimate son of William Gordon and Mary. The couple separated in the year of his birth. He married Hazel Luders in 1928.[2] He passed away in 1985.[3]

That numbering suggests, that at the very least, he was legally adopted, but I've never been interested enough to go to the expense of acquiring the birth registration, to see what it says. Descendants should, though.
Both Iris and Arthur, on the other hand, married as GORDONs, but Arthur also has the double birth registration in the microfiche indeces. However, he registered his children as GORDONs.
Do you know when and or why Alfred changed his surname from Gordon to Courtney? Appreciate your advice Kind regards Mark
