Biography

Elspet Coutts was born about 04 Jun 1794 in Echt^[1], the daughter of Charles Coutts and Isabel Webster.
She married George Divorty 04 Mar 1820 in Echt^[2]. They had at least 7 children. In the 1841 census, George, a Millwright, and Elspet were at Midmill, Kintore with their children William, Elspet, Jean, Peter and George. In the 1851 census, George, age 55, a Millwright Apprentice was still living at Midmill but now with his daughter Jean. His wife Elspet, age 55, was visiting with their daughter Elspet and son George at 74 Windmill Brae. In the 1861 census, at Midmill, George and Elspet are still living at the same location but now with their granddaughters Jane and Anne.
Elspet died 02 May 1868, age 73, at Burgh in Kintore from Carcinoma which she had for 2 years. She also had Morbus Cordis which she had for 5 days. George was present when Elspet died. Her husband George died the following year. George and Elspet are buried in the Kirkyard of Kintore.
