James was born about 1792. He was the son of James Covell and Lydia Rood. James passed away some time between Jun 1860 and Jun 1870, and Olive continued to live with their daughter, Roselia.
1830 US Federal Census of Ellery, Chautauqua, New York James' household composition consists of 1 male (aged 30-39); 1 female (aged 20-29); male (aged 5-9); 1 female (5-9) and 1 female (under 5). Although Joseph (17 Oct 1819 - 12 Nov 1891) appears to be missing from James' household composition, it is interesting to note that there is an unidentified male (aged 10-14) enumerated in his father's household this census year.
1850 US Federal Census of Oregon, Dane, Wisconsin James (age 56); his wife, Olive L. (age 47); his daughter, Rosalia (age 14); and a shoemaker, Zenas Conger (age 37), most likely a boarder who helped him in his shop. James and Olive's daughter, Betsey Casselman; and their son, James Covill, also lived nearby them.
1860 Sparta, Monroe, Wisconsin James (age 68) & Olive (age 58) were living in the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Roselia & Augustus Childs. James worked as a clerk; most likely helping Augustus with the paperwork involved with his duties as a public official. James & Olive's daughter, Olive Pooler, and her husband and children also lived in this household. Olive's husband, Orlando Pooler, was also working as a clerk at this time.
