According to HOP it was John Covert, his father together with John Michell who served at the 1529 Parliament. History of Parliament online

History of Parliament online: John Covert. I can find no entry at that date for Richard. If HOP is right and Richardson wrong then it should be possible to adjust Richard's DOB to a more appropriate date. I've no access to Richardson

They were married by 1544: "He left three married daughters as his coheirs and had made his will ‘long before’ his death but after the birth in 1544" - he names his sons-in-law in the will (including Richard). They married before 1550 (probably closer to 1545, as 2nd son Walter's birth is given here as c1549. The 1564/65, which is attributed to Richardson as when they married, is a misreading of what Richardson's entry for Richard. He was Sheriff, 1564-65.
