Biography

Darcy Cowan was born in Norwood, South Australia on 8 August 1885 to James Cowan and Sarah Ann Warren.[1] He graduated from the University of Adelaide in 1908 with multiple degrees in medicine.[2] He received a knighthood in 1955 in "recognition of service to medicine."[3]

Darcy married Effie Hewitt Cox in Hahndorf, South Australia on 19 April 1910.[4] The following marriage notice was published in the South Australian newspaper, The Evening Journal, on 30 April 1910:[5]

COWAN—COX.—On the 19th April, at tbe residence of the Hon. A. von Doussa, Hahndorf, by the Rev. Father Landy, Darcy Rivers Warren Cowan, of Burnside, to Effie Hewitt Cox, of Gawler.

Darcy died on 9 June 1958 in North Adelaide, South Australia.[6] Darcy was buried at Payneham Cemetery in Payneham, South Australia.[7]
