Elizabeth (Coward) Alford was born in Dorset, England.
Elizabeth was baptised at St Mary the Virgin, Gillingham on 2 February 1766, She was the fifth of ten children of William Coward and his first wife. [1] Her mother was probably Elizabeth Jupe.
Elizabeth married Richard Alford at Gillingham, Dorset by banns on 4 July 1790 . [2] . There were four children from the marriage, the first baptised 5 weeks after the marriage: -
Husband Richard died at Gillingham in 1840. [3] At the 1841 census Elizabeth is a pauper living with her son James at Tomlins Lane, Gillingham. [4]
Elizabeth died in the Shaftesbury Work House in 1843 and was buried at Gillingham on 15 October 1843. [5][6]
Research Notes
Dorset OPC records the death of Elizabeth Coward daughter of William Coward 29 July 1767 at Gillingham. This makes it possible that William Coward is not Elizabeth's father. [7]
