Biography
William's first wife and the mother of his children, Margaret, died while still living in Ireland. He also had a son, Joseph, who died from small pox while in Ireland. William came to America about 1817, with one of his sons, David Cowden, accompanying him. His other sons would follow later. Those sons being: William Cowden Jr.; John Cowden; Robert Cowden; and James Cowden. It was in America where William married his second wife, Mary Henderson.
