COWGER, farmer; was born 13 Aug 1825 in Wilson County, Tennessee; son of Adam Cowger, a native of Pennsylvania; a farmer & blacksmith; he died in Tennessee. The mother of our subject, Keziah Davis Cowger, was a native of Virginia, and died in Tennessee. She was the daughter of Isum Davis, a native of Virginia, and the parent of 10 children, of whom only Ann E.F. Walker, Jacob Cowger of Texas and Martha P Watson are now living. Our subject received no education at all, in early life. He came to Jefferson County about 1856, and here he has now a farm of 120 acres of land. He is self-made, and in political affairs is connected to the Democratic party. His first wife, Martha C McConnell, was the mother of Mary Luster, now living. He second wife, Elizabeth Hunt, is the mother of 3 children now living: Ida Luster, Benjamin E Cowger, now in Texas, and Electra Sursa. His present wife, Vermont Gorham, is a Kentuckian, born 2 Jul 1848. She is a daughter of Henry S & Mary (Cooper) Gorham. She is the mother of 6 children: Rado; Walter J; Minnie M; Clara, living and 2 deceased. Mr & Mrs Cowger are connected with the United Baptist Church.
